How is Nike+ Heat Map Calculated?

Nike plus heat map question: how is the Heat Map in Nike+ Maps calculated? Is it after a number of runs or must there be several different devices/users clocking the GPS data before it turns orange? Thanks for reading!

Answer: Nike calcuates the number of users running the same route. So the more number of runners who have synced their GPS data of that particular area/route the more red the "heat" will show on the map.

  1. Thank you! I've been wondering what the heck the Heat Map was!

  2. So how many runners need to run the route for it to populate, ...2, 5, 10? I live in a more rural town, so is there any chance for my run area to light up? Thanks.

  3. I just made a route on "places" but it didn't save to my routes... I have even ran the route a couple of times but it still doesn't show up anywhere on the map. How many times do I or other people have to run the route before it shows up? Or is all that work making the route futile? What's the point of even making routes if it doesn't save it for you?

  4. I live in Brisbane, Australia. Back in Jan 2010 we had major flooding and it washed away a 1km section of floating pontoon along the river near to the Story Bridge in the centre of town that was popular for running. I just noticed tonight (Feb 2013) than even though the pontoon has NOT been replaced and there has been no way to run along the river for the past 2 years, it still shows up in the heat map as major 'heat'. In other words, the data is really, really old. lol. And I thought the feature was pretty cool, but it's not. Come on Nike!

  5. Thanks Steve, I had been wondering why none of the heat-blobs ever changed. The old maps where you could see routes other people created and ran in your area were so much better.

  8. What about Top Routes? There is an achievement regarding it but there isn't a top route in Sydney, Australia at all :/ Bummered.
